Universal Growth in Production Economies
نویسندگان
چکیده
We study a simple variant of the von Neumann model of an expanding economy, in which multiple producers produce goods according to their production function. The players trade their goods at the market and then use the bundles acquired as inputs for the production in the next round. We show that a simple decentralized dynamic, where players update their bids proportionally to how useful the investments were in the past round, leads to growth of the economy in the long term (whenever growth is possible) but also creates unbounded inequality, i.e. very rich and very poor players emerge. We analyze several other phenomena, such as how the relation of a player with others influences its development and the Gini index of the system.

Original article UDC 330.322:338.24 Received in June 2004. I analyse panel data and time series evidence about the effect of FDIon growth in twenty transition economies. The panel data analysis suggests that the effect of FDI on growth in the group of transition economies has been marginally negative, albeit less so for the subsample of candidates for membership in the EU. On the other hand, VE...
متن کاملTypical properties of optimal growth in the Von Neumann expanding model for large random economies
We calculate the optimal solutions of the fully heterogeneous Von Neumann expansion problem with N processes and P goods in the limit N → ∞. This model provides an elementary description of the growth of a production economy in the long run. The system turns from a contracting to an expanding phase as N increases beyond P. The solution is characterized by a universal behavior, independent of th...
متن کاملTwo Methods for Measuring the Environmental Returns to Scale Using Data Envelopment Analysis Approach
Nowadays, the assessment of environmental performance has received considerable attention by environmental strategy advocators and decision makers. In recent years, increased emission of CO2 into the air, water pollution, and global warming are universal problems all over the world. Therefore, development of firms with less CO2 emission is an important issue of attention in every area of produc...
متن کاملDecomposition of Total Factor Productivity Growth of Pistachio Production in Rafsanjan Region of Iran
The stochastic frontier production model is one of the most used ways to estimate efficiency and productivity. The purpose of this paper was to decompose the sources of total factor productivity (TFP) growth into technological progress, changes in technical efficiency and changes in economies of scale. In this paper, we also used Divisia index in order to estimate production function. A random ...
متن کاملTotal Factor Productivity Growth, Technical Change and Technical Efficiency Change in Asian Economies: Decomposition Analysis
The aim of this paper is to analyze total factor productivity (TFP) growth and its components in Asian countries applying Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA) to the time series data of 44 Asian countries from 2000 to 2010. Using Battese and Coelli approach, TFP is divided into technical efficiency change and technical change. TFP decomposition using SFA method for the years 1998 to 2007 indicate...
